Caulk: A Sticky Tale

Disgusting. That is the only word that could be used to describe the state of my shower prior to this project. The caulking in my en-suite bathroom had gone mildewy and it was a sight to behold. I didn't take any pictures because I'm sure you would hold it against me. Unfortunately I didn't get the OCD cleaning gene out of the sisters.

My first course of action was, of course, to check YouTube for tutorial videos. I watched a couple and I have to say they were the most boring YouTube'ing I have ever done. I hit Home Depot and grabbed some caulk and a caulking gun. Not gonna lie I felt pretty bad ass buying that gear.

Grout removal time. My tactic was to use the exacto knife to cut all the way down each caulked seam, then go to each edge and try to slide the blade underneath. Some places it was really easy and some places it was impossible.

Then I cleaned the seams with a bleach and water mixture. Then I let it dry over night.... The next night I was scared and excited to start re-caulking! Not going to lie it took me about half an hour to figure out how to get the caulk and caulking gun to be friends. I'm surprised that thing doesn't come with directions. :|

Applying the caulk was simple, but sticky. About 3 minutes into it I, my clothes and the entire bathroom (exaggeration) was covered in silicon. I thought it would just wash off my hands, but it really didn't. I had to google how to get it off - apparently rubbing yourself with a plastic bag will do the trick; that or letting it dry and then just peeling it off.

The results are amazing, it looks so fresh and clean. So good, in fact, that I decided to re-caulk my second bathroom! Viola, here's some progress photos...

Project Kitchen Cabinets

I decided to re-paint my kitchen cabinets from antique white to trim white. It took me nearly two weeks to finish this stupid project, because it kept getting bigger and bigger. As usual, once I started painting I couldn't stop. Everything had been evacuated out of my kitchen, so I couldn't cook or bake, which was frustrating. I ended up painting all of the insides of the cupboards, which was a ton of extra work. I also ripped out the light fixture, which was exciting as it was the very last original light fixture in my condo. And by I, I mean my mom, dad and I. Reinforcements had to be called in at the end of my project because I was exhausted and frustrated. It was really challenging to put the cupboards back on the cabinets by myself - they are heavy and awkward. I called my mom whining about it right around the time I noticed I put two cupboards on upside down :| Anyhow, it looks so fresh and shiny and great, and I'm very happy with it. Here's some during and after photos, of course I didn't take any before photos, that would have been too perfect.

headBORED.

It's been a while since I've done any renovations. I believe the last reno was project Wallpaper, which turned into project- wallpaper-lighting-cabinet refinishing-tile regrouting. After a few months of recuperation I feel like I'm ready for another round of Projects Gone Wrong. Not that I go into a project trying to f it up. just happens.

The bane of my existence at the moment is my bedroom. It has so much potential to be a lovely little space but i have failed miserably in accomplishing that. i chose a lovely light gray for the walls and have a great bedding set that's white with black flowers. (sans bed skirt unfortunately).
however, the rest of the furniture and its arrangement as well as lack of headboard and wall hangings have finally gotten to me. It's t-shirt time! if you're not a jersey shore fan that just means it's time to get'er going and get'er done.

The main project (so far) is going to be a new headboard. I have a wooden headboard (the same one as on King of the Hill) that i could just use as is or perhaps re-stain to something more of my liking. It's a medium wood color that i think i would like better white washed. What i REALLY want to do though is upholster and tuft. An original Shelly Upholstered Tufted Super Duper Headboard.

I spent an obscene amount of time googling images and how-to articles in order to get an idea of the process. It's fairly straight forward. Here are the headboard pictures i collected, it's a fairly random assortment, but there's something about each one i like.
Any input is certainly welcome. I have no idea how i'm going to pick the fabric or shape and size. I love white and will probably default to a large white headboard, but just think how amazing a plush teal suede headboard would be! Watson and i need your help.
